Our Story
Mariwenyi village, a community in Taita-Taveta County, Kenya, is located near the town of Voi and Mwatate sub-county. Its youthful population possesses immense potential and is eager to contribute to the community's growth, especially through entrepreneurship. However, financial constraints often hinder their ability to access post-primary and higher education—the critical gateway to skilled employment and business development.
Recognizing this challenge from his own experience as a needy student, Dr. Fredrick Mwazighe sought to give back and help struggling students from his village by implementing strategic bursaries and sponsorships through Mariwenyi Youth Mentorship programme. What began as a single event in 2020, initially focused on imparting godly values and soft skills, has since grown into an impactful annual program held every April, which has also expanded its outreach to surrounding villages.
The first event was held in partnership with the local churches: PEFA Mariwenyi, ACK St. Titus Mariwenyi, and Grace Ministries Mbambarenyi. Since 2023, the event has been held every April and has expanded to include other surrounding villages. From 2023, a great need to support the youth being mentored came to light: a good number needed financial support to stay in school, which was important for their future. A group of friends who were part of the 2023 mentorship team came together to fundraise to keep bright and needy students in school.
Every year, the programme raises over KES 200,000 for the financial support of Mariwenyi students and about KES 100,000 for the Youth Event. New partners and well-wishers are welcome to partner in the initiative.
